Upcycled Wiggle Vase

I like to see you wiggle, wiggle, for sure

I am so excited to share my latest upcycle with you - the Upcycled Wiggle Vase! I’ve always loved vases with wiggle detailing, so I decided to see if I could make my own using materials I already had at home. I had an old vase collecting dust in our garage that I picked up at a charity store years ago for $8. The shape was perfect for what I had in mind, so then I raided the kids craft cupboard and found a tub of air dry clay. And as they say, the rest is history. Read on to learn how to make your own Upcycled Wiggle Vase!

How To

Grab a ball of air dry clay and using your hands shape it into a long snake. Remember to take any rings off as they will create indents in the clay. Set the air dry clay snake onto a sheet of baking paper and create a wiggle shape using your hands. Use the side of your vase as a guide to determine the height of each clay wiggle. Make sure the ends of each clay wiggle are shaped into an angle so they’re easy to glue later on. Set aside to dry for 6 to 24 hours or until completely dry.

While the clay is drying, apply two coats of paint to the vase and let the paint completely dry in between coats. I chose Primal by Dulux. Set aside to dry. When the clay is dry, apply two coats of paint and let the paint completely dry in between coats. Set aside to dry. Glue the clay wiggles to the sides of the vase and secure with painter’s tape so they don’t slip while the glue is curing and drying. Set aside for at least 3 hours before peeling the tape off.

Ps. Don’t grab the wiggle handles when handling the vase. Even though they’re glued on, they may fall off.

Ta daaaa! It’s amazing what you can do with a secondhand vase and a little wiggle, wiggle.

I am SO in love with this vase! I have done a lot of vase upcycles in my time but this has to be my absolute favourite! I loved that I used a secondhand vase and materials I already had at home, but that’s ok if you don’t because the materials are so affordable. I’ve seen wiggle vases cost hundreds, and it’s very satisfying knowing I made this for less than $30. I hope you feel inspired to make your own because honestly, this project is so easy, so satisfying and it brings sop much joy!
