Upcycled: DIY Stone Lamp
Smashing tiles, slate and vases with a hammer? Sign me up! This week I am coming to you with a fun upcycled project, the DIY Stone Lamp. Late last week I went on a little tip shop thrift and stumbled across a mini lamp for $8, and it reminded me of a photo I had seen in my friends Instagram feed. I had some leftover travertine-look tiles at home from my DIY Tiled Side Table project, which I knew I could use for this DIY so I set about rummaging or pieces of stone I could use my make my version of this lamp. I found a stunning textural terracotta vase for $1 and a piece of slate, which I scored for free. I picked up some grout from Bunnings, sprayed the hardware gold, wrapped the lampshade in raffia and here we are! The best thing about this DIY Stone Lamp is that you can use any objects to create the crazy paving lamp base - tiles, rocks, seashells, stone, vases, pavers, ceramics. You can transform any lamp you have at home or one you pick up for next to nothing at your local charity store or FB Marketplace. Read on to find out how you upcycle your very own DIY Stone Lamp.

How To
1. Place the tile onto a drop cloth. Put your protective eyewear on and hit the tile using the hammer. Keep hitting the tile until you are happy with the sizes of the smashed pieces of tile. Set aside and repeat with the slate and vase.
2. Clean the lamp with a dry cloth to remove any dust or dirt. Remove the bulb and lampshade.
3. Apply glue underneath a piece of tile and place it firmly on the lamp base. Repeat with the other pieces of tile, slate and terracotta until you have created a beautiful crazy paving/terrazzo pattern and the lamp base is completely covered. Make sure you leave space between each piece. Set aside to dry for at least 24 hours.
4. Cover the vase and spray silver hardware with gold spray paint. Set aside to dry.
5. Using a spoon, place some grout into a plastic zip lock bag and push it down to one corner. Twist the top to seal the back and cut the tip off. Working in small sections, carefully squeeze the grout between the pieces of tile, slate and terracotta. Let is set for a few minutes, then with wet fingers, lightly pat the grout until its smooth. Set aside to dry for at least 24 hours.
6. While the grout is drying, wrap the lampshade in raffia. Start by tying a double knot onto the inside of the lampshade structure and wrap the raffia around the lampshade until it's completely covered. Replace the lampshade and light bulb. And it's done!
