Upcycled Wooden Magazine Rack

Not to be dramatic but I bet you've never seen a wine rack upcycle like this before!

I got the most random idea for an upcyele when I stumbled across this secondhand wooden wine rack at a charity shop. I took it straight home, got to work and made two vintage-looking magazine racks!

Before & After

Project Details

♻️ Upcycling: A thrifted wine rack

🕒 Project Time Estimate: 45 minutes (not including timber stain or wood glue drying time)

🪑 Skill Level: Intermediate

💰 Materials Cost: $15

👷🏼‍♀️ Safety Gear: Latex gloves, protective face mask, ear plugs and eyewear

Materials

  • Drop sheet

  • Timber

  • Timber stain

  • Wood glue

Tools

  • Handsaw (I used a tenon saw)

  • Measuring tape

  • Table clamps

  • Circular saw or you can use a jigsaw

  • Microfibre cloth

How To

Step 1: Place a drop sheet onto the surface you will be working on. Place the wooden wine rack on top and cut it in half using a handsaw.

Step 2: Use a measuring tape to figure out the size of the timber you’ll need to cut. Firmly secure the timber to your work surface using clamps and cut two pieces of timber.

Step 3: Apply two coats of timber stain to the timber using a microfibre cloth. When dried, apply good glue to the sides and place the wine rack on top. Set aside to dry. And that’s it!

Ta daaa!

I am never going to look at a wine rack the same way ever again but I guess that's just how my brain works. In all seriousness, I actually cannot believe how good it looks!
