Making a handmade gift filled with lots of love…

One of the joys of doing all my upcycling and DIY projects is that I get to work with lots of beautiful materials and I love keeping any leftover pieces just in case. I had some scrap wood and leftover wood veneer (from my Upcycled Marquetry Lamp project) in my studio, so I made my son Dusty a chess set for his 7th birthday. He is obsessed with maths and the strategy of playing chess, and I thought it would be a super cute idea to give him something handmade he could cherish forever!

I also made the chess pieces and they're not cut perfectly, but what I love about kids is that they don't care about perfection. In the end, I had nothing to worry about because Dusty LOVES his new chess set and I am so happy I made him a gift from scratch because it has that handmade quality, which makes it even more special. I've also shared a detailed tutorial on my YouTube Channel with the steps and links to all the materials I used
