DIY Wavy Candle Holder (using a plant prop!)
Coming to you this week with a lovely project that takes little to no effort - the DIY Wavy Candle Holder. Honestly, I am really surprised this actually worked. I've been admiring the many beautiful wavy wrought iron candle holders over on Instagram for months and I couldn't stop thinking about how I could make my own. Obviously wrought iron is not something that's easilyDIY'able at home so I set about seeing how I could come up with a hack using something else.A couple of weeks ago I went to Bunnings to scope out some wire but I ended up stumbling across Plant Props. What on earth are those you ask? They are pieces of wire that are used to support plants.; you sit them in a pot and they keep plants upright and looking their best. What interested me the most was that they could actually stand upright on their own. And then it clicked. I could use these to make wavy candle holders!
I came home and tested my theory which I shared on Instagram, and it was so great getting lots of tips and advice. The wire is quite stiff, so you need to put a bit of muscle into bending it but it worked! I tried gluing chair tips to the top of each candle holder, but they fell off as soon as I put a candle in them. Then I decided to make circular trays instead using cardboard, and here we are. I am so excited to share this latest project with out, so let's get making!
What You Need
Plant Prop (they come in black and white)
Thick cardboard
Cup
Pencil
Scissors
Hole punch or sharp knife
Black paint
Paint brush
Soft wax pillar candles. My column pillar candles are byBlack Blaze.
How To
Use your hands and shape the straight section of the Plant Prop into a wavy pattern. Leave the top section straight so it can hold the candle and use the edge of a table to shape this last section. Stand the now Wavy Candle Holder upright and bend it accordingly so it stands upright.
Trace a circle around a cup using a pencil or pen. Cut the circle out. Paint both sides of the circles with black paint. Set aside to dry. When dry, pierce the middle of each circle with a hole punch or knife. Gently push the cardboard onto the tip of the plant prop.
Slowly and carefully, push the soft wax candle into the tip of the plant prop, about 1cm to 1 inch. If you push too fast or too deep, the candle may crumble. You may need to adjust and balance the candle holder slightly. Light the candle (if it's not too windy outside) and enjoy the DIY Wavy Candle Holder vibes.
